When an anticipated bestselling novel is released, how is it that the book arrives at residences and retailers across the world in synchronized fashion? Think about the swine flu vaccine and the challenges of transporting millions of doses around the U.S. in time to avoid a further pandemic. What about the hot, new video game, the latest fashion, or the groceries at the local supermarket? The answer to all of these challenges is “supply chain management.”

posted: June 04, 2009
Summary: We’ve all heard the definition of insanity, “Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” Apart from describing my golf game, this definition also hits home for many shippers who understand that the downtrodden economy requires different strategies for survival and yes, even growth.

posted: February 25, 2009

And don't forget the box of guitar picks. Inbound Freight Strategies For The 21st Century

posted: December 06, 2007
Summary: Mom always taught us that the easy way isn't always the best way. With this tried and true philosophy in mind, ask yourself, "Do I let my suppliers control the freight cost because it's easy to do so?" Or better yet, ask yourself, "Do I buy on a delivered basis because I really believe I'm getting the best overall deal?"

Is Maglev the Answer?

posted: November 14, 2005
Summary: Their was a renewed interest in transportation as an integral part of the supply chain at this year's recent annual conference of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. I listened to many trucking company executives lament that, over the past 50 years, this country has had national highway bills but no highway policy. In fact, one executive said President Eisenhower put forth the country's last true national highway policy.
